Until they see a Moose security system, most people have never heard of the Moose Products brand. Over the years, millions of Moose wired security systems were installed in U.S. homes and businesses. Although they’re no longer manufactured, these systems can last for years, and used equipment is still available from some sources online.

If you have another model of Moose security system, the steps will be similar, but not exactly the same. Before attempting any alarm programming, I recommend that you to download a copy of the User Manual and Alarm Installation Manual for your specific model of Moose security system. Programming for Moose alarm systems is divided into two sections: Installer Level and User Level.
Installer level programming controls everything the system does, including zone responses, alarm report codes, central station receiver format, etc. Home security companies usually program this information at installation time, and then rarely if ever need to change it.
User level programming can only perform certain functions, like changing user codes, delay times, arming and disarming options, etc.
This two-level setup allows homeowners to easily adjust the system to suit their preferences, while protecting the higher-level functions of the panel.
The Z900 holds up to (6) codes, numbered 001-006, with the first code (1) designated as the Master Code. The Master code can add or change any code, including itself. Each of the remaining User Codes (2-6) only has the power to change itself.
The keypad will sound one long beep, and the system will exit programming mode automatically.
The Master Code is now reset to the default value of “1245”. You can choose to change the Master code or add/change User codes following the instructions in the previous section.
Now that you have valid arm/disarm codes, you can begin using your Moose security system. If the system has been in place for a few years, expect to find a few problems. Battery trouble, communicator failure, and phone line trouble are common issues when a home alarm system changes hands.
The keypad(s) will beep and illuminate the “Trouble” LED to signal a problem, and the user manual will have simple instructions on how to find the specific cause of trouble.
